When we hear about diving, we always think of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. But did you know that the Philippines also has great diving spots? There’s Donsol in Sorsogon, Apo Reef and Puerto Galera in Mindoro, to name a few. For these reasons, the Philippines is considered as the center of biodiversity in the world because of the multitude of species present in the oceans surrounding the Philippines.
Puerto Galera is only three and a half hour away from Manila first by bus to the port at Batangas City and then by boat. Puerto Galera is well known among tourists for its numerous pocket beaches and many snorkeling and Scuba diving spots.
Apo Reef is a series of coral reefs encompassing 34 square kilometers within the waters of Occidental Mindoro in the Philippines. It is the world's second-largest contiguous coral reef system and the largest in the country.The reef and its surrounding waters are administered as a National Park as part of the Apo Reef Natural Park project.
You probably have heard of the “Butanding,” the hugest creature that ever graced the waters of Donsol. They migrate here in the months of February to May and in peak seasons, about 15 butandings can be spotted. No words could describe the feeling after swimming beside the huge silver-spotted blue-gray creatures.
